About Ringsy
Last updated October 11, 2026
Ringsy is an iPhone app that turns any sound into a ringtone, text tone or alert, made by Đào Văn Thương, an independent developer in Vietnam. The sound can be an audio file from Files, the soundtrack of a video in Photos, a voice recording or one of Ringsy’s own built-in tones. Ringsy trims it to the iPhone’s 30-second limit, adds fades and evens out the volume, and helps set it — all on the device. Sounds are never uploaded, there is no account, and it is paid for once, not by subscription.

Why Ringsy exists
The most popular ringtone apps charge a weekly subscription and put almost everything behind a paywall, so a single ringtone can end up costing more than the phone’s storage it takes.
Ringsy works the moment it is opened: no paywall before the first tone, the first two exports free, and one payment for everything after that. No trial that turns into a bill and nothing to cancel.
A ringtone is often a personal sound — a child’s laugh, a voice memo, a moment from a video. Ringsy keeps those sounds on the iPhone and has no account to tie them to.
Privacy in short
- Sounds, videos and recordings are processed on the device and never uploaded. The microphone is on only while recording.
- There is no account, no advertising, no IDFA and no tracking across apps.
- RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID, the identifier for vendor and purchase history, only to know whether Ringsy Unlimited is unlocked. Payment is handled by Apple.
- Anonymous usage statistics and crash reports go to Google’s Firebase. They are always on and never include sounds, file or tone names, or anything typed.
- Feedback from the app is sent only when the user writes it and taps Send.

Questions about Ringsy
What is Ringsy?
Ringsy is an iPhone app that turns any sound into a ringtone, text tone or alert, made by Đào Văn Thương, an independent developer in Vietnam. It is on the App Store as “Ringsy: Ringtone Maker”.
What does Ringsy do?
It turns any sound into a ringtone, text tone or alert. You pick an audio file, a video’s sound, a recording or a built-in tone; trim it to under 30 seconds on a waveform; add fades and even out the volume; hear it ring as a call; and set it — through “Use as Ringtone” on iOS 26, or a guided GarageBand export on iOS 17–18. Everything is processed on the iPhone.
Who made Ringsy?
Đào Văn Thương (Dao Van Thuong), an independent developer in Vietnam. He also makes Lockboxy, Minivid, Linkeeper, Talkzy, Stampzy, Baton and Hearnote.
Does Ringsy upload my sounds?
No. Files, a video’s audio and recordings are opened, trimmed and saved on the device and never leave it. What does leave it is purchase data (so the app knows whether it is unlocked), anonymous usage statistics and crash reports — never a sound, a file name or anything typed.
Which iPhone and iOS does Ringsy need?
iOS 17 or later. The one-tap “Use as Ringtone” action is part of iOS 26; on iOS 17–18 Ringsy uses Apple’s free GarageBand app and also provides an .m4r file. Ringsy also runs on iPad, where a ringtone rings only for the iPad’s own calls.
Is Ringsy a subscription?
No. It is free to download, the first two exported ringtones are free, and Ringsy Unlimited is a single one-time in-app purchase with nothing that renews. The price is shown in the App Store.
